Level

Level measurement spans continuous level measurement and point level detection for liquids, pastes, bulk solids, and liquefied gases—most often in tanks, silos, sumps, hoppers, and movable containers. Reliable level information is foundational for inventory accuracy, overfill prevention, stable feed to downstream operations, and protection of rotating equipment from dry-run or cavitation conditions. It also supports consistent product quality and economic efficiency at the measurement point.

A broad set of measuring principles is applied to address widely varying dielectric properties, surface conditions, foam, vapor space effects, dust, buildup, and mechanical constraints. Typical noncontact solutions include free-space radar (including high-frequency radar variants) and ultrasonic time-of-flight. Contact and point solutions include guided radar, capacitance, conductive probes, vibronic point level switches, float switches, and paddle switches, while hydrostatic measurement and radiometric techniques address services where geometry, solids loading, or extreme conditions demand alternative approaches.

Continuous measurement stabilizes surge capacity and feed-forward control, while point level detection provides robust discrete protection for high-high or low-low conditions.
