Optical Analysis

Optical analysis covers laboratory and process measurement systems that use light–matter interaction to identify and quantify chemical composition in solids, liquids, slurries, particles, and gases. These systems support real-time insight for product quality monitoring, process optimization, and emissions compliance. A comprehensive portfolio of atomic and molecular analysis tools spans in-situ and extractive approaches across process and environmental measurement needs.

Key technologies include tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS), quenched fluorescence (QF), Raman spectroscopy, and spectroscopic methods across NIR, IR, and UV/Vis ranges, along with atomic absorption techniques. Category groupings commonly include process gas analyzers, digital analyzer solutions, particle measurement devices, and emissions monitoring solutions, complemented by air quality measurement, smoke detection, and related monitoring solutions.

Value is created through rapid, information-rich measurement. Optical analysis can provide high-speed results (seconds to minutes) that improve process transparency and reduce time-to-response during disturbances. Inline optical approaches also support noninvasive, hands-free measurement with minimal sample preparation, improving safety and reducing routine handling burden. High availability is supported through systems designed for practical operation and maintenance.

Typical applications include gas concentration monitoring for safety and quality, trace measurement of critical contaminants, process control in chemical and energy operations, and continuous emissions monitoring where reliable concentration measurement is necessary to target reductions. In solids and slurries, spectroscopy-based methods can be applied for composition trending and quality verification where conventional sampling is slow or disruptive.

Deployment success depends on correct technology selection (in-situ vs. extractive), optical path management, and integration into control and data systems for actionable use. When aligned to the process, optical analysis becomes a continuous source of decision-grade information for optimization, reliability, and compliance programs.
