Pressure

Pressure measurement encompasses absolute, gauge, and differential pressure sensing for liquids, pastes, and gases. Beyond direct pressure measurement, the same technology is widely applied to infer level (hydrostatic pressure) and flow (differential pressure across a primary element), making pressure instrumentation a foundational building block for many control strategies. A broad sensor technology range supports fit-for-purpose application coverage across industries and process conditions.

Typical instrument families include pressure transmitters for continuous measurement and differential pressure transmitters for ΔP applications. Selection is commonly driven by required accuracy, turndown, wetted material compatibility, process temperature/pressure limits, and installation details such as impulse line design for ΔP services. Where modern device platforms are applied, digital electronics and diagnostics expand pressure measurement from a single PV into a richer health and status signal.

The key benefits include stable measurement for control and protection, improved reliability through diagnostics, and reduced unplanned downtime caused by drifting or failing sensing elements. Pressure data also supports early detection of abnormal conditions such as filter fouling, pump issues, or plugged impulse lines in differential pressure installations. Newer transmitter generations are also positioned to “bridge to IIoT,” enabling safety and productivity objectives to be pursued together through better connectivity and insight.

Common applications include reactor and vessel pressure control, hydrostatic level measurement in tanks, filter and strainer monitoring, pump protection, compressor and pipeline monitoring, and differential pressure flow measurement in steam, gas, and liquid services. Differential pressure is also widely used for interface applications and for monitoring constraints across control valves and heat exchangers.

Effective use depends on sound impulse line practices, appropriate range selection, and standardized configuration and documentation so devices remain maintainable over long lifecycles. Selection and sizing tools support best-fit choices for measuring tasks, helping align performance, reliability, and lifecycle serviceability.
