pH Sensors & Transmitters

pH sensors and transmitters provide continuous measurement of acidity/alkalinity, one of the most widely used and quality-critical analytical parameters in process operations. pH measurement points include the electrode (glass, enamel, or ISFET), a reference system and diaphragm suited to the medium, and a transmitter with calibration and diagnostic capability.

pH is frequently a primary control variable for product quality, reaction completion, corrosion management, scaling prevention, and chemical dosing efficiency. More than 30% of quality-relevant process measurements are identified as pH measurements, underscoring the operational impact of reliable pH instrumentation on stability, safety, and optimization.

The core measuring method is potentiometric: the pH value is derived from the voltage developed across a sensing membrane relative to a reference electrode. Practical performance is strongly influenced by the reference design, diaphragm selection, and the ability to maintain a clean, hydrated sensing surface - especially in sticky, fouling, or fast-changing media.

Sensor technologies are selected to match risk and media characteristics. Glass sensors are broadly applicable, while ISFET sensors are used where glass breakage is intolerable or where media contain high amounts of organic solvents. Enamel sensors are applied when long-term stability and the lowest maintenance requirements are priorities. Portfolios also address hazardous areas, hygienic requirements, and challenging process compositions.

Typical applications include neutralization systems, chemical production, wastewater treatment, food & beverage processing, pharmaceutical and life-science operations, and power/utility water chemistry. Successful deployment depends on proper installation hardware, disciplined calibration with traceable buffers, and cleaning practices that preserve reference integrity and measurement response under real process conditions.
