Temperature Switches

Temperature switches are instruments designed for safe monitoring of process temperature with built-in switching functionality. They provide compact, space-efficient measurement points with reliable operation and simplified commissioning. Output configurations typically include one or two discrete switch outputs, or a combination of one switch output plus a standardized analog output for continuous indication - supporting both protection and basic control needs from the same device family.

Portfolio designs commonly integrate transmitter and display functions into modular switch assemblies. A broad range of process connections - spanning hygienic and industrial interfaces - supports flexible installation across diverse piping and vessel standards. Fast-response sensors (on the order of seconds for t90, depending on configuration) can be applied where temperature excursions must be detected quickly to protect equipment, product, or downstream assets.

The functional value is in decentralized, deterministic decision-making at the measuring point. Integrated switching electronics enable economical local monitoring and control, supporting setpoint-based alarming, permissive logic, and simple interlocks without relying on a separate controller scan to detect excursions. Long-term stable temperature sensors and robust switching behavior support consistent protection performance across changing ambient conditions and over extended service life.

Measurement principle selection is aligned to temperature range and mechanical demands. RTDs are typically selected where high accuracy and long-term stability are dominant needs, while thermocouples are favored where very fast response and high vibration resistance are beneficial at elevated temperatures. Switch plus analog variants can simultaneously support discrete protection actions and provide a continuous signal for trending, diagnostics, or supervisory control strategies.

Typical applications include over/under-temperature protection, alarms and shutdown functions, and local temperature-based control actions in both industrial and hygienic processes. Broad process-connection availability supports use across utilities, skids, and packaged equipment, while integrated configuration features (including PC programmability) help standardize commissioning and lifecycle maintenance for large populations of switched temperature points.
